Looking for participants to evaluate a new typing method for text entry in Virtual Reality

Requirements:

To be eligible you must:
  • Be 18 years old or older
  • Have access to an Oculus Quest for at least the duration of the study
  • Have normal levels of visual acuity

Details

The experiment consists of typing a given set of phrases using the two modalities (hands and controllers). The experiment lasts 4 days with about 1 hour each day where you will type between 20 to 40 phrases.

There is no need to install anything as the whole experiment runs on the web (Oculus Browser).

We provide a 50$ Amazon gift card at the end of the experiment as compensation.

This experiment has been approved by Georgia Tech's Institutional Review Board. Upon enrolling in the study you will receive a participant number and the data from your typing sessions will be linked to that.
How does it work?

Typing with your controllers

The keyboard uses the Oculus Touch controllers to type letters in a sequential manner. For example, to type the letter B you will use the left controller to hold a key down, and then the right controller to print "B". The order in which the presses occur is crucial for the keyboard so if you do that in reverse for example you'll get the letter "M".
Typing with your hands
The keyboard uses the hand tracking ability of the Oculus Quest to allow you to type using your fingertips. Keep in mind that the accuracy of the hand tracking is still in a development stage so it might not always respond well to your gestures. The Meta Quest Pro currently responds better than Quest 1 and Quest 2.
